DP Karts Bairnsdale Race Report

Arriving Saturday most of the team had not seen the track before and it didn’t take long for them to be very impressed with the track layout and facilities this great club has to offer.

Saturday was a beautiful sunny day with the great organisation of the club seeing everyone get allot of track time.  Michael Smith was putting in some impressive times in the Midget class now swapping back to his AX9 Arrow Chassis and would end practice with the second fastest time of the day.

Luke Guillou, Jordan Holowell and Braydon Flood were very fast in the Rookies swapping fastest times all day with some amazing driving having the locals asking if they realise its practice and not racing swapping positions a number of times throughout each practice session. Jordan would end the day fastest with a time only 3 one hundredths faster than Luke with Braydon not far behind.

Aron Lawrence was out learning the track in Restricted 125 but a technical issue in his first session (He forgot to do up a rear wheel) seen him lose valuable track time while repairs were done. Aron finished the day with the 3rd fastest time but was worried about how the Bairnsdale track surface was wearing his already used MG Red tyres.

Although rain was predicted for Sunday we arrived at the track to a beautiful sunny day, and the canteen ladies were hard at work making Bacon and egg rolls for everyone.

Midgets was first to get underway and there was some good racing  Michael Smith really getting his confidence back and having some great starts. Michael would end the day 2nd behind Jordan Carruso for the day.

Next was Rookies and with the times the 3 boys were doing on Saturday it promised to be some great racing.  The first race was won by Troy Alger with both Luke Guillou and Jordan Holowell swapping positions slowing them down they were never going to catch Troy. Race 1 would end up with Troy Alger 1st , Luke Guillou 2nd , Jordan Holowell 3rd and Braydon Flood 4th.

Race 2 and 3 were just fantastic racing seeing many passes and what the Clerk Of course Graham Monds described as a fantastic effort seeing the first 3 coming onto the straight 3 wide to take the flag. Luke Guillou would take the win for the day followed by Troy Alger, Jordan Holowell and Braydon Flood.

Aron Lawrence was next up in restricted 125 and everyone was at the fence to watch these new guys to karting battle it out. Aron chose to stay on his old rubber and found by half way through race 1 while in second position that he may have made the wrong choice dropping back to 5th with the lack of grip he had. The same would prevail in race 2 and 3 with Aron taking the lead in both races only to see his kart go off with lack of grip mid way through both races.
